Briefing Lawmakers on Science Education
On 15 February 2012, MadaTech General Director,
Dr. Ronen Mir, addressed the Knesset Science & Technology Committee
. He outlined the Museum's unique science and technology programs for 9th grade girls run in cooperation with the Haifa Municipality, the Ministry of Education and Intel and Rafael; and described its countrywide outreach programs. Mir proposed the initiation of a Nobel Program for Scientific Excellence, to advance science learning with the aid of science museums.
The proposal has already garnered avid support of two Israeli Nobel Laureates, President Shimon Peres and Prof. Dan Schechtman. A pilot program will be initiated by science museums in Haifa, Jerusalem and Rehovot, in collaboration with local authorities. Dr. Mir was pleased to hear from the Committee chair that Haifa leads the way in number of graduates of fortified high school physics and science streams.
