Noble Energy Science Park at MadaTech
Park-Strip.jpg
As Israel’s premier institution of informal science education, Madatech is dedicated to preserving, popularizing and promoting the rich cultural heritage of science and fostering a love of science and technology among Israeli children and adults. The Noble Energy Science Park is concrete evidence that this important mission can be accomplished.  With the opening of its Noble Energy Science Park, in late October 2011, Madatech joins a number of world-class science museums with sophisticated science parks.

This unique one acre park sprawls over the spacious outdoor area between Madatech's historical building of exhibitions and Madatech's Education building and complements the indoor scientific experience.

"We are proud to take part in this unique project and hope it will contribute to educating and expanding the scientific knowledge of Israel's future generations" says Charles (Chuck) Davidson, chairman and C.E.O at Noble Energy.

The idea of establishing the science park was initiated in 2008. The Park's design and construction posed a complex challenge, which, among others, called for a solution to the five-meter (17 ft.) height differential between the two landmark buildings demarcating the Park. Architects Amos Wachman and Ehud Kasif came up with a series of terraces, ramps, bridges and elevated trails, which create a remarkable visual connection between exhibit levels and enable easy pedestrian traffic. The project was led by chief Museum curator, Dr. Tal Berman and exhibition designer, Dudu Dahan. The MadaTech Workshop staff was largely responsible for the exhibit construction.

An additional challenge was creating a distinctive thematic park and designing designated authentic exhibits, which were constructed of combined materials, such as wood, brass, textile and stone.

Through captivating large interactive exhibits, the Park renders tangible, the scientific principles underlying the discoveries of a number of giants whose breakthroughs shaped the course of science. Each of the Park's thematic courtyards focuses on the discovery of a noted scientist--Archimedes, Leonardo Da Vinci, Sir Isaac Newton, Daniel Bernoulli, Galileo Galilei and Pythagoras. It also provides the cultural contexts in which these remarkable scientists worked--while depicting them as people who led ordinary lives, with which we can all identify.

The Park meshes natural elements of trees and water with giant interactive exhibits, which use wind, sun and water to demonstrate scientific principles. "The interactive encounter with outdoor scientific experiences, enhances visitors' experience on their visit to Madatech's Large Science Campus", says Mr. Leon Reccanati, Madatech's chairman.

An open-air expansive amphitheater is located in the midst of the park. It seats 400 people and overlooks a compass rose shaped fountain, with fascinating adjustable water and color features.

For visitors, the Science Park is a green lung in the midst of the city; a getaway where they can gain first-hand fun experience of some of the key science and technological principles that shape the world we live in and discover that science is present in every aspect of our lives, not only in schools and science institutions.
