Girls in Science and Technology Project
Madatech hosts the annual conference for girls from Haifa and the North of Israel

Over 300 girls from schools around Haifa arrived Madatech on Thursday, 10.03.11 to the second conference of Girls in Science and Technology project, dedicated to amplifying the amount of girls choosing science and technology as their major subject, and encouraging them to seek future job opportunities in these fields.

The conference hosted Madatech's CEO Dr. Ronen Mir, Amal Schools Network director and one of the project's initiators Dr. Ronit Askenazi, Ms. Hilla Gelberg and Ms. Ilana Truk from the Education Dept. at Haifa Municipality.

In the conference, the girls heard a lecture by Prof. Shlomit Lavenberg, head of the Lab in the Technion's Bio-Medical Faculty. Further, the girls met in small intimate groups with leading female engineers in the Technion, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Intel. These women presented their personal story and shared the significance of choosing scientific and technological fields and the many advantages of this business, and instructed the girls how to build a small engineering model, according to pre-defined criteria.

The Girls in Science and Technology project is part of a constitutional program operated by The Science and Technology Administration, in association with The Ministry of Education's Gender Equality Unit. Its objective is introducing girls to the attractive, interesting side of scientific and engineering professions, for a future career in these fields, encouraging them to beat the challenge and increase their self-esteem and ability to succeed, and attaining equal means of evaluation.

Mr. Igal Sebero, Raphael's HR senior deputy: "we are happy and proud to continue and take part in such activities, encouraging excellence in science and technology studies. There is a close connection between Israel's education and national security to this unique Girls in Science and Technology project. These activities implement Rafael's vision to be a significant factor in supporting the community and society, as a major part of our operation to develop systems for protecting Israel and its citizens"
